  18. <p>     Will the Keating Five become the Keating Three? Maybe, if
  19. the Senate ethics committee heeds its lawyer's recommendation
  20. that Democratic Senator John Glenn of Ohio and Republican
  21. Senator John McCain of Arizona be cleared, for insufficient
  22. evidence, of accusations that they granted improper favors to
  23. former S&L owner Charles H. Keating Jr. That would leave
  24. Arizona's Dennis DeConcini, Michigan's Donald Riegle and
  25. California's Alan Cranston, all Democratic Senators. Keating
  26. and his associates contributed $1.4 million to the five men, who
  27. intervened on his behalf with federal regulators. The
  28. committee, which has heard from Glenn, McCain and DeConcini,
  29. is expected to vote this week on whether to continue
  30. investigating some or all of the Senators.
